Este es el post original: Los peronistas

Wanton Smithers dijo...

Although human beings are emotional creatures there should be a concerted effort to understand the emotion that drives us. Lately something made me angry, very angry, but later I understood that I was wrong and the anger was replaced by a sense of responsibility for others. While angry I still would prefer some changes so I what disapeared was my anger and not my entire argument. This posting is important because it calls for reason, debate, flexibility, patience, consideration and many of the human qualities that allow for progress.

The case of Peronism has been deep rooted in emotion, feelings of anti imperialism, hatred for the English and Americans, and what in the 1940s drove nations such as the United Kingdom to adopt socialism and to eliminate servitude. These "origins" of Peronism unfortunately gave rise to the autocratic and charismatic dictatorship of Peron and Evita (a milder version of Mussolini, Hitler, Franco). However, these "origins" are in the distant past and have nothing whatever to do with the realities of today. The Americans and the English are not out to get the Argentine people! That was never the case but even if so, the world has changed dramatically, and in fact was never the way that Peron painted it. While the masses may have fond memories of Peron, there is no doubt that Peron was a selfish crook and a violent person.

The power of reason can allow Peronists to escape the emotion that drives their actions, to escape this religion of Peron. It would be very important for them to do this and to eliminate the peronist party (the name, for it could be transformed) from Argentine life. That may be unrealistic at present but is a necessary condition for Argentina to rejoin the wealthy and successful nations of the world.

Argentina is poorer today than it was 50 years ago. Any Peronist should take note of that. The main change that is required is to embrace all peoples of the world (especially the people of the United States and Europe) as allies and friends. Neither we or our governments are out to get you. We want to trade with you and to invent new technology to improve life and help every family feel happy.
